I have no horse in this race. I am neither a Jehovah's Witness nor do I personally know anybody who is. The author makes no attempt to appear neutral or balanced. He is so relentlessly negative on his former religion and has clearly gathered information to bolster this side that a thoughtful reader will treat his âanalysis" of the tenets of the religion and its leaders with skepticism. However, the accounts of the day-to-day lives of the Jehovah's Witness adherents and the rules they are expected to follow seem to be reasonably reliable and therefore this aspect of the book is worthwhile, if disturbing to read. In summary: a dichotomy of low-value angry criticism mixed with worthwhile accounts of what it is like to live as a regular Jehovah's Witness.
