Book Review:
I will be honest. There has not been a book that I read in one day (almost) until I read Dawn Staley new book, Uncommon Favor. I say almost because I fell asleep listening to it and had to go back and read the last 2 chapters left. Lol.
Notice that I didn't say Coach Dawn. This book introduces us to the kid, the college student, the sister, the daughter, the Christian, the woman named Dawn Staley. Many recognize her as a WNBA player and Coach at University of SC Gamecocks. But ask yourself, where did this success all started? Let me tell you. I listened to the audiobook because it is Narrated by Dawn herself, but I wrote down so many nuggets, encouraging words, lessons, quotes, thoughts, history notes, statistics, tips and tricks. I plan to purchase the physical copy and read again to highlight.
The book takes you through 13 lessons. But it is not lessons that Dawn is teaching you. But lessons that she learned and we can also learn from too. The way she cared for her players. How she stood up for what she believed in and never let awards, trophies or even money change her. That little girl from Philly that was always playing basketball.
I recommend not just female Basketball players to read this book. But definitely young girls that play any sport. Women and especially black women to see that you are worthy and always stand up for equality. And also Men, to learn to never give up on your dreams, connect with the right people and stay humble always.
The best quotes from this book for me was: "Where you begin does not always have to be where you end." And "You have to do what you don't want to do to get what you want"
