Read for a book group and really enjoyed thinking about the implications of being able to have limited "do overs"! Premise gets a bit far fetched at the end, but overall a good story.
Mitch Albom is a joy to read. Grateful for another solid book to enjoy reading.
A fun story to read.
What if you could redo every mistake you ever made? Mitch Albom takes that idea in Twice and turns it into a heartfelt love story that had me tearing up by the end.
Alfie Logan discovers as a child that he can undo moments and live them again. At first, the gift feels playful and thrilling. As he grows older, it becomes a shortcut through embarrassment, fear, and regret. I loved Alfie as a main character. He wants to be good. Though, he gets in his own way. Alfie's sweet personality makes it easy to care about every turn his life takes.
Then, love enters the picture. Gianna is the person his heart keeps returning to, and watching Alfie realize that some losses cannot be outsmarted gives the novel its deepest pull. Their relationship carries decades of longing, missed timing, friendship, and devotion. I was rooting for them hard.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Mitch Albom. You can tell he cares deeply about the story. That adds charm to the performance. I still wish there had been a female narrator because men doing female voices always makes me cringe.
The ending got me good. I was already emotional, then Albom added one final twist and pushed me right over the edge to full on crying. Twice is sweet, moving, and a reminder that getting everything you want is not the same as valuing what you already had.
Creative, thought provoking, we'll written and very good read. I really did enjoy it.
