Token: A Novel

She’s brilliant, beautiful…and tired of being the only Black woman in the room. After being plucked from reception and placed into the boardroom in the name of diversity, Kennedy and her best friend founded Token, a boutique PR agency that helps “diversity-challenged” companies and celebrities. Definitely kept my interest, loved Kennedy's career story and how too often what's said in our face is a far cry from what people (men in particular) really think of us when they think know one outside their white circle can hear or will ever get privy too. I also enjoyed that Kennedy didn't trip too hard on finding out who really helped pay for her college education, just say thank you and be happy it all came from a place of love and respect. Even though the title of the book is exactly what it meant, it took a different direction than I thought initially in the first 2 chapters and in a good way.
