GOOD MORNING AMERICA BUZZ PICK • “A romcom-meets-magic delight!”—Sarah Adams, New York Times bestselling author of Practice Makes Perfect
A young woman tries to heal her heartbreak by casting a spell to erase her ex from her past, but she wakes up in an alternate reality where she’s lost more than she wished for in this witty, whimsical friends-to-lovers debut.
What if one little wish changed everything?
When Gemma gets dumped by her long-term boyfriend, she reacts the way any reasonable twenty-eight-year-old would: by getting drunk with her sister, kooky aunt, and best friend, Dax. After one too many margaritas, they decide to perform a love- cleansing spell, which promises to erase Gemma’s ex from her memory. They follow all the instructions, including a platonic kiss from Dax to seal the deal.
When Gemma wakes up, she realizes that this silly spell has worked. Not only does it seem that she never dated her ex, but the rest of her life is completely unrecognizable. The worst part: Dax has no idea who she is.
To reverse the spell and get back to her old life, Gemma must convince her once-best-friend-now-near-stranger to kiss her. But as she carries out her plans, she finds herself falling for him—hard. Soon, Gemma begins to wonder whether she even wants to go back to the way things once were. What if Dax was The One all along?

Cute, whimsical, quick read. Normally Iâm not into time travel/alternate universe, but it worked for this story. I loved the chemistry between Gemma and Dax and once the steam hit, it was on. The supporting castâ¦Aunt Livi, Kierst, Brandon and Dougie all were so funny and added to the story.
Kinda bummed she didn't end up in her original universe. Never explained how much the aunt was involved/knows which bothered me. I liked it but would change some aspects if I could
Magical romance that's cute and inspired - usually not into spells/magic in my romance, but this felt refreshing. Main characters were likable.
3.5
3 for the first half and 4 for the second half.
I really wasn't vibing with this book until a little after the halfway point, then I started to feel more invested. Gemma and her sister kind of annoyed me in the first half of the story. Gemma's personality traits are basically whiny and quirky, and her sister is just a string of sex jokes. The sister gets some depth much later into the story, and Gemma has some character growth where she begins to consider not being so selfish all the time. (It's not really framed that way, though, the book doesn't necessarily consider her selfish.) I do feel like there's a lot of telling rather than showing throughout the story. Things that I didn't love but may not bother others: there are a couple scenes of somewhat toxic diet culture talk, and there is a lot of alcohol and drunkenness.
I love friends-to-lovers romances, so that aspect worked for me, although I would have appreciated a little more actual friendship being shown. Dax is a good love interest, but his characterization felt a bit flat. I think this book would make for a good Netflix rom-com movie. If you're in the mood for reading something like that, you will probably have a decent time reading this. I listened on audiobook and the narrator was great.
Content Warnings:
Graphic: Sexual content and Alcohol
Moderate: Fire/Fire injury
Minor: Fatphobia and Pandemic/Epidemic

Very fun rom com! Loved the storyline and ending. Has lots of spice throughout the book, so it might be a plus or minus to some. I enjoyed the characters and would listen to it again.
