This Is Where I Leave You: A Novel

A riotously funny, emotionally raw New York Times bestselling novel about love, marriage, divorce, family, and the ties that bind—whether we like it or not.
The death of Judd Foxman’s father marks the first time that the entire Foxman clan has congregated in years. There is, however, one conspicuous absence: Judd's wife, Jen, whose affair with his radio- shock-jock boss has recently become painfully public. Simultaneously mourning the demise of his father and his marriage, Judd joins his dysfunctional family as they reluctantly sit shiva and spend seven days and nights under the same roof. The week quickly spins out of control as longstanding grudges resurface, secrets are revealed and old passions are reawakened. Then Jen delivers the clincher: she's pregnant...
“Often sidesplitting, mostly heartbreaking...[Tropper is] a more sincere, insightful version of Nick Hornby, that other master of male psyche.”—USA Today
NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE STARRING JASON BATEMAN, TINA FEY, JANE FONDA, AND ADAM DRIVER

I really enjoyed this book. This was a dysfunctional family that came together to mourn their father and husband and ended up closer and better off than when the shiva started. This book had me laughing out loud at times, while also having sweet and enlightening moments as well. Each family member had their own issues but ended up showing up for each other in ways that were unexpected.
Wickedly funny so far.

Great book. All about family relationships and relationships in general and how we all suck at them. :)

The Foxman family is forced to sit Shiva together for a week. Seven days of house arrest with your basically estranged family who you forgot how to be family with. Forced bonding + the lack of “gentle” words is the perfect recipe for disaster comedy. I’ve never read a story with so much familial chaos, and it certainly makes my family look like the picture of serenity. This book is genuinely hilarious.
I really enjoyed this novel. But I love when books or movies take serious and heavy subjects and make them real and honest. Families can be a mess. The only criticism I have is the author's tendency to describe every character's-whether male or female, young or old-physical characteristics in graphic and nose-wrinkling detail. Sometimes less is more. Great book though.
Many funny moments in this book.
