This Is Me Letting You Go

Letting go is not a process that comes naturally to us. In a world that teaches us to cling to what we love at all costs, there is an undeniable art to moving on - and it's one that we are constantly relearning. In this series of honest and poignant essays, Heidi Priebe explores the harsh reality of what it means to let go of the people and situations we love most - often before we are ready to - and how to embrace what comes next.

I absolutely love Heidi’s work on YouTube. This book wasn’t my favorite. It is somehow too personal, while also being too cryptic and nebulous to be instructive. Reading this felt like reading someone’s personal diary, written in a wavering sort of poetic ambiguity and sanitized of identifying information. There is a raw sentimentality… an effervescence that seems to arise not from a deep well of hope, but in an almost fearful and reactive manner, as if the bubbles are running, screaming, away from an unaddressed and unnamed well of despair, in search of a silver lining. I think Heidi is both more self aware and a much better writer than this book demonstrates. I hope she will continue to share her gifts with us, and that if she chooses to write from personal experience again, that she bravely confronts more of the places that scare her.
