SPOILER WARNING: The teacher as the red herring and it turning out to be the main character’s crush was BEYOND obvious and I predicted both. Was really hoping for an actual plot twist that couldn’t be seen from miles away. However, it was enjoyable to see the turmoil of characters handling expectations that have been put on them and navigating who they actually want to be in conflict with who society expects them to be. It was satisfying to see the main character reject the societal constraints put on her.

You need to read at least past half the book to be interested. Honestly I find the Players concept quite... irrelevant or not relatable but I Guess seeing Jill become someone who she is not to who she is.. was nice. Justice was served.

this is a fantastic combo of gossip girl meets murder mystery meets not-so-secret society elite. i blew through this book and live for a good messy dramatic YA book! unlike many YA books I've read the character is pretty relatable as a too-much-on-her-plate high school senior trying to live her final moments with her inner circle society elite friend circle (very mirrorball vibes for the swiftie readers) this book picks apart the pressure and weight of college apps, the secret society almost hazing-like activity, and throws a murder in there for fun! watching jill solve this felt truly like what a real kid might do which I loved about it, however, the story is laid out a bit chaotically with flashbacks I didn't necessarily see coming. if you're into a quick throwaway book this is for you and is kinda like watching a one-season trashy high school drama series! overall i had a good time reading it! i would give this 3.5 given the option but wasn't quite a 4 star...
