2.5 stars, maybe? I think 2 stars is a little harsh.
I didn't enjoy this as much as I did the previous book. There was nothing wrong with the characters. It amazes me that the authors were able to create such different characters throughout this series. I really liked Sofia in the previous book, so I was really excited to read her story. Enjoying it wasn't hard, but it came to the point that this story is not really her story anymore a little after halfway through the book.
The format of science fiction books are always the same. At least, in the few books I read so far in that genre. The third and last book of a trilogy will consist of this one thing that I don't like: the characters focusing on bringing down the bad guy. Cue them constantly trying their best to escape danger. The guns. The exhaustion that came with the fighting. The blood and gore. This one even had a moment of a 'zombie apocalypse' that just turned me off. If it was anyone's fault, it was mine for picking up a sci-fi book when I do not possess an easy connection with that genre. There was a lot of frustration when reading this, because it felt like it kept dragging. I had the mind to stop reading, too.
But I have to admit that the world the authors have created, and their descriptions of it, are fantastic. Their writing is easy to read. The characters are all likeable, so strong and smart. They love so hard that it can get a bit annoying when the authors' descriptions of it repeat over and over: of them staring at each other with tenderness blablabla. It was interesting to see the three couples come together for a proper conclusion of this trilogy.
I'm still deciding whether or not to read the first book though. Hmm.
