The novel is a domestic noir that focuses heavily on the intricacies of family life. Its dramatic storytelling often resembles a soap opera. Although the plot captivates and engages with clever twists, it can sometimes become convoluted, slowing the pacing.
The story revolves around Tash and her husband Aaron, who agree to experience life from the perspective of Tash's glamorous sister, Alice. They swap their everyday life for a weekend in Alice's luxurious Venice apartment, while Alice and her partner Kyle care for Tash's children. However, when tragedy strikes with Kyle's death and an attack on Alice, Tash finds herself questioning whether she was the intended target. The narrative introduces further tension with the addition of a missing baby and a questionable ex-partner.
The book features multiple points of view, which can sometimes confuse readers when following the narrative. Nevertheless, the characters' distinct voices help maintain the story's flow. While Tash and her mother are portrayed as relatable and grounded, the other characters lack appeal, making it challenging to feel invested in them.
Despite minor flaws, the novel remains an engaging and readable thriller that draws readers into its web of intrigue.
Fantastic! A must-read!
I couldn't put it down!! Very suspenseful and easy to read. If I had one criticism it would be the ending was too quick and I could have done with a couple more chapters to maybe make more of Holly's return??
Loved it a really excellent ending to this plot … kept you guessing all the way through .
