The Watchers

A claustrophobic horror adventure set in the remote unknown forests of Galway, where mysterious creatures keep humans as pets for observation, from debut Irish author A.M. Shine.

You can't see them. But they can see you.

This forest isn't charted on any map. Every car breaks down at its treeline. Mina's is no different. Left stranded, she is forced into the dark woodland only to find a woman shouting, urging Mina to run to a concrete bunker. As the door slams behind her, the building is besieged by screams.

Mina finds herself in a room with a wall of glass, and an electric light that activates at nightfall, when the Watchers come above ground. These creatures emerge to observe their captive humans and terrible things happen to anyone who doesn't reach the bunker in time.

Afraid and trapped among strangers, Mina is desperate for answers. Who are the Watchers and why are these creatures keeping them imprisoned, keen to watch their every move?

This story was about our own human/inhuman behaviors and how the transparency in our mirror image can be frightening. I was ripped from my world and plunged into darkness. With just a few words I was placed deep in a forest that had effectively erased any way out. As I read I imagined more lurking in the darkness beside me and from now on, a forest will be that black hole I prefer to explore only from pages in a book. I look forward to reading more books of his. It was fun exploring the darkness of his imagination. I love it and I recommend. Can't wait to get to his other book The Creeper. If I could give this book all the stars in the universe then that would be my rating.

This was a really good story. It was well written and flowed nicely. It had twists and turns i didn't see coming. The relationship between the characters was written where i could feel the tense, happy, suspicious. That ending though.....wow!
