The Tides of Time: A Storm Tide Romance

By Sarah M. Eden

In 1793, a storm propels Lili forward through time, kindling a love that transcends the ages.

Fleeing the clutches of Robespierre's revolutionary Tribunal in France, Lili Minet makes a desperate escape on a ship headed to England, but her dangerous flight takes an unexpected turn when a violent storm catapults her off the ship and eighty years into the future, leaving her stranded in the unfamiliar world of 1873 England.

When lighthouse keeper Armitage Pierce rescues a woman from the tumultuous sea, he does not anticipate her silent, cold response to his gallant efforts. Though he is wary of this woman and her odd behaviors, he finds she is just as wary of him. And he can sense that she is not telling him something of great import to her. Only Armitage's grandfather, a man seasoned by the mysteries of the sea, can seem to penetrate Lili's defenses to offer her support. But as Lili heals from the physical and emotional wounds of her ordeal and Armitage continues to offer light and safety to her, a tender friendship blossoms between the two.

Yet the shadow of danger looms as the threat that chased Lili from France all those years ago reemerges in her new present. Together Lili and Armitage must navigate the challenges of a romance that grows to defy the boundaries of time and the perils that reach across the decades to ensnare Lili. As the storm clouds gather, Lili and Armitage face the ultimate test--discovering whether their bond is strong enough to rewrite the pages of history itself to save them and their love.

The Tides of Time by Sarah M. Eden Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5 stars) ✨Reading Mood: Gentle, reflective, emotional historical fiction 📖 Synopsis: When Lili Minet flees revolutionary France in 1793, a violent storm throws her eighty years into the future, where lighthouse keeper Armitage Pierce and his grandfather become an unexpected refuge amid the dangers still tied to her past. Blending historical fiction, romance, mystery, and time travel, this story explores healing, belonging, and love that transcends time itself. My Review: I was really excited for this book. The cover and synopsis immediately pulled me in with the promise of mystery, danger, time travel, and emotional depth. The story started very strong for me, and I was instantly intrigued by Lili and everything she was running from. The middle portion did slow down more than I anticipated, leaning heavily into the quieter, day-to-day moments of healing and life between the characters. At times, those slower moments became a bit repetitive for me and made it harder to stay fully immersed. But once the story picked up again in the second half, I found myself becoming far more emotionally invested. I especially appreciated the lingering tension surrounding Lili’s past and the complicated emotions tied to her brother. That constant sense that she could never fully escape what she left behind added such an emotional heaviness and quiet suspense to the story. The characters themselves were truly lovely. Lili carried so much grief and fear while still maintaining such a warm and giving heart. Armitage and his grandfather absolutely stole my heart, though. The care and gentleness they showed Lili made them feel like such a safe haven for her. Watching Lili and Armitage slowly find comfort and understanding in one another was one of my favorite parts of the story. Their connection felt soft, steady, and deeply rooted in trust and care, which made their relationship feel especially meaningful. I also loved that Grandfather understood the fullness of Lili’s story. His warmth, wisdom, and protectiveness added so much heart to the book, and honestly made him one of my favorite characters. And then there was that ending. I genuinely was not expecting it, and somehow it managed to pull everything together beautifully in a way that completely reshaped my feelings about the story as a whole. Looking back, the slower moments, emotional build-up, and relationships all suddenly felt intentional and meaningful in a way I hadn’t fully appreciated while reading. Few endings are strong enough to completely elevate an entire reading experience for me, but this one absolutely did. Despite my minor frustrations along the way, the ending left me emotional, satisfied, and still thinking about these characters after turning the final page — and honestly, that earned this a full 5 stars from me. 🎧 As with all of my books lately, I paired the physical book with the audiobook while navigating autoimmune issues and migraines. The audiobook was enjoyable and one I’d definitely recommend alongside the physical read.

First, fair warning, I only listened to the audiobook AND I have ADHD so there were points that I zoned out and forgot what was going on. So if I state something as fact when it’s not, meaning I missed it, that’s my fault. This book was a bit too slow for me and it felt like things happening. Despite it being a romance book, the romance felt a little forced. I wasn’t really sold on Lili and Armitage’s relationship until I was close to the end. I will say that that end was quite interesting. That part alone made up for the rest of the book. Even though I love a good romance, there’s just something about these types of books set in that time period that make me not super interested. All in all, it is a good book. Definitely far from terrible! I’d give it a read if you like books similar to Pride and Prejudice. It’s still a creative and interesting concept on time travel.
