The Summer That Changed Everything: A Beach Read Novel

She returned to prove her father's innocence, but there's no telling what she'll find...

It's been fifteen years since Lucy Sinclair saw her father. Fifteen long years since she sat in a courtroom and watched him sentenced to life in prison. He murdered three victims--all people she knew--which ruined her life at just seventeen. But now she's back in Virginia to talk to him, wondering if there's more to the story of what happened that fateful night.

An old flame, Ford Wagner, makes his own return to North Hampton Beach, fleeing a marriage that seems destined for divorce. He's wary of Lucy and her digging into the past, but the more time they spend together, the closer they get and the more he finds himself reconsidering the truth behind the death of their mutual friend that summer. Problem is, there are plenty of those in this small coastal town who would prefer things stay quiet...

Lucy’s father was convicted of three murders 15 years ago. While DNA evidence linked him to two victims, the third murder, involving a girl Lucy's age, seemed circumstantial. Now, Lucy returns home to uncover the truth, discovering far more than she expected, including reconnecting with her ex-boyfriend, Ford. The town resents her return, but Lucy is determined to prove her dad's innocence in the teen murder. This spicy romantic mystery will keep you guessing. I found myself deeply invested in solving the case and enjoyed seeing Lucy and Ford rekindle their relationship.

This was my first read by Brenda Novak, and I loved her writing and the way she kept me thinking I knew who was guilty but still had doubt. I will be picking up one of her books again.

Thank you to Netgalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for this advanced copy of The Summer That Changed Everything, and Brenda Novak for a terrific story.

Book started a little slow. It took me a bit to get into it. Once the plot and story got started it didn't stop. The investigation that was going on kept coming up with more twists and turns; I couldn't always keep up with it. It's such a good story, but I wish it wasn't a third person writing. Dual POV's or multiple POVs would of been much easier to keep up with. I do wish the text messages would of been in a different font too.
Overall it was good story and plot and the romance that was in it was good.
