Great spy story, with a twist. Love the premise, retired spies living in Maine. Maggie Bird is the main character whose past sins surface to draw her back into danger. I found her tragic backstory compelling and tragic enough to motivate her actions. The story travels around the world to exotic Bangkok and Malta. Maine is featured in the story, makes me want to retire to a cottage in the woods. I love the sheriff, Jo. She is down to earth and very perceptive. She knows something is up with this group of senior who have dubbed themselves The Martini Club. Reminds me a little of Murder She Wrote, just not as whimsical. This is not a cosy mystery. It is a brutal spy story. Not quite Red, the movie with Bruce Willis. it falls somewhere between the two works. When I was younger I read the Mrs. Pollifax series, about a retired grandmother who walks into the CIA and volunteers to help out. She gets sent on mission and her adventures were fun and exciting. Maybe the story means more to me because like the characters I am part of the invisible crowd of older people. It id refreshing to read about characters who are competent individuals with full lives even though they are over 50. Looking forward to spending more time with the characters.

Amazing! I didn't want to put this book down. It kept me thinking the whole time. Can't wait until book #2 comes out. This is going to be a great series if it continues.
I think the reviewer Kendall said it best. Aside from that, this book was just really boring. I was never particularly excited, surprised, or thrilled while reading. Not sure I read the same book as others. But I did finish it just to finish it.
