A gorgeous hardcover edition featuring lavender sprayed edges! The Spellshop is Sarah Beth Durst's romantasy debut-a lush cottagecore tale full of stolen spellbooks, unexpected friendships, sweet jams, and even sweeter love.

Kiela has always had trouble dealing with people. Thankfully, as a librarian at the Great Library of Alyssium, she and her assistant, Caz--a magically sentient spider plant--have spent the last decade sequestered among the empire's most precious spellbooks, preserving their magic for the city's elite.

When a revolution begins and the library goes up in flames, she and Caz flee with all the spellbooks they can carry and head to a remote island Kiela never thought she'd see again: her childhood home. Taking refuge there, Kiela discovers, much to her dismay, a nosy--and very handsome--neighbor who can't take a hint and keeps showing up day after day to make sure she's fed and to help fix up her new home.

In need of income, Kiela identifies something that even the bakery in town doesn't have: jam. With the help of an old recipe book her parents left her and a bit of illegal magic, her cottage garden is soon covered in ripe berries.

But magic can do more than make life a little sweeter, so Kiela risks the consequences of using unsanctioned spells and opens the island's first-ever and much needed secret spellshop.

Like a Hallmark rom-com full of mythical creatures and fueled by cinnamon rolls and magic, The Spellshop will heal your heart and feed your soul.

This was such a fun read. I kinda loved that the FMC wasn’t the most likeable of all the characters. The world the author creates is so immersive and left me wanting more. Fingers crossed this becomes a series. 🤞🏻

A slow start that picked up and became a really good read. I loved Meep! For sure wish they had been in it more. I'm excited to read the next book.

This was a very cute book. Books that pertains, magic, flowers, & gardens are my forte. I would even recommend this book for pre-teens.

This book gets an automatic 10/10 just for the way librarians are portrayed. As a librarian myself, I am happy to suspend belief over the way librarians do their work in fantasy novels (in contemporary books is another story), but The Spellshop hit the nail on the head so hard I was almost convinced the author worked in a library. It's a lot of fun watching Kiela go from a strict rule-follower to diving right into illegal magic almost immediately. The found-family, cottagecore vibes were excellent, and I liked how the side characters had complex backstories. The magic system was really interesting as well, especially the idea that intonation or inflection of the words in the spell could affect how it works - with some hilarious side effects. There are only two things I didn't like: 1. The characters aren't described in much detail, so I was left completely clueless as to what most of them *Larran* looked like. 2. The romance was sweet and cute but a little...boring at times. Only a little bit, though! Adjusting those two things would have made this book an 11/10, so it's not really a big deal in the grand scheme.
