The Spanish Love Deception: A Novel

A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

A TikTok sensation, this rom-com about a young woman who agrees to fake date a colleague and bring him to her sister's wedding has "everything you could want in a romance" (Helen Hoang, New York Times bestselling author).

Catalina Martín desperately needs a date to her sister's wedding. Especially since her little white lie about her American boyfriend has spiralled out of control. Now everyone she knows--including her ex and his fiancée--will be there and eager to meet him.

She only has four weeks to find someone willing to cross the Atlantic and aid in her deception. New York to Spain is no short flight and her raucous family won't be easy to fool.

Enter Aaron Blackford--her tall, handsome, condescending colleague--who surprisingly offers to step in. She'd rather refuse; never has there been a more aggravating, blood-boiling, and insufferable man.

But Catalina is desperate, and as the wedding draws nearer, Aaron looks like her best option. And she begins to realize he might not be as terrible in the real world as he is at the office.

I expected more from this based on the recommendations and the general rating. The enemies to lovers relationship seemed strained to me, the MC was obnoxiously oblivious to his obvious feelings for her. I didn't connect with the writing style either. It was quite entertaining, but unfortunately in a predictable, simple way.

Enjoyable read but a very slow and confusing start. Also a VERY slow burn.

Edit 25/01/2022: I re-read some particular parts of the book after going on booktok and I have to say on second thought Catalina is quite irritating. So I'm demoting this to 4 ⭐

Booktok recommended! And wow what a story this is.
Aaron Blackford, a man I won't forget easily. I guess this is the power of love, it melts even ice.
What I really liked about him: he is not afraid to be emotional.
What I didn't like: that he's so perfect, he's honestly a dream. He has ruined it all for us people, our new standard is finding someone who would learn a whole new language for them.
What I like about Catalina: she is so fiery and passionate and so tender with Aaron's vulnerability, so understanding and she's honestly his rock.
What I didn't like about Catalina: her stubbornness that I just want to stab myself instead.

I'm usually stingy with my stars but this book made me feel everything and I think it deserves the 5. I like an emotional man who knows what he wants and that is him. I just couldn't put the book down.

Also a personal life update that no one asked for: I FINALLY BOUGHT AN E-READER!
