"One of the best thrillers of the year"--The New York Times
"The book is many things: a crime story, a psychological study, a blueprint for how and when to mete out information in a thriller. But most of all it is an inquiry into the mysteries of marriage and commitment, and into what we owe our spouses and one another." --The New York Times Book ReviewPrepare yourself for a thrilling, addictive novel about marriage, betrayal, and the secrets that push us to the edge in this next book from the bestselling author of The Good Sister and The Younger Wife. I had high hopes for this book by Sally Hepworth. Who wouldnât like a story featuring an ominous cliff and a woman who mysteriously goes over when a man who supposedly saves people from jumping to their deaths is near her? (Wow, thatâs a mouthful.) However, as the story dragged on, my interest waned. I just wasnât interested in the way that THIS author presented the âback and forthâ timeline, which is odd, given that I usually love that text structure.

This is my first time reading a novel by Sally Hepworth, but it is obvious to see why she is so popular. The short chapters, many of which ending with a plot twist, kept me engaged throughout the book and I ended up finishing it in one sitting.
Ultimately, this was a 3.5 read for me and Iâve rounded up on account of Hepworthâs writing style.
The Soulmate tells the story of two marriages told through two wives, Pippa and Amanda. Centered around one suicide, the novel explores themes of fidelity, trust, and loyalty.
While I loved the premise and found the story fairly unique, I found myself frequently frustrated with Pippa (the primary POV). For a character who is seemingly rational, she is pretty clueless. At times her decisions made zero sense to me & with out going into spoilers I didnât understand how she was so oblivious to things around her.
Iâd recommend The Soulmate to lovers of domestic suspense or anyone looking for a quick read that will keep them on the edge of their seats.

A gripping domestic thriller that explored the cracks beneath a seemingly perfect marriage. Pippa and Gabe live in an idyllic cliffside home with their two daughters, where Gabe has developed a reputation for talking down people contemplating suicide at the cliff's edge. But when one woman falls to her death, Pippa begins to question whether Gabe really tried to save herâor if something more sinister occurred. Hepworth did a fantastic job creating envy for Pippa and Gabeâs picture-perfect life, only to unravel it layer by layer. The suspense built beautifully, and the twists kept me hooked until the end. A compelling read with a dark, emotional edge!
On the outside, Gabe and Pippa look like they have it all. A beautiful home near a cliff, 2 adorable daughters and extended family that love them dearly... but now, Pippa is wondering if buying their home near the cliff was a wise decision. The cliff is a known site for people to jump, likely ending their lives. Enter, Gabe. Gabe is somewhat of a local hero in the fact that he has talked several individuals out of jumping. But when he doesn't get through to one and there are some odd circumstances around the case things get interesting.
Okay, Sally Hepworth. I literally finished this book in 24 hours. It was very good and obviously bingeable! I loved the dual narrator perspectives and the storyline. My only "complaint" is that certain things were really predictable, but overall, I really enjoyed it and would recommend to others!
