The Serpent and the Wings of Night (Crowns of Nyaxia)

Human or vampire, the rules of survival are the same: never trust, never yield, and always - always - guard your heart.

The adopted human daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, Oraya carved her place in a world designed to kill her. Her only chance to become something more than prey is entering the Kejari: a legendary tournament held by the goddess of death herself.

But winning won't be easy amongst the most vicious warriors from all three vampire houses. To survive, Oraya is forced to make an alliance with a mysterious rival.

Everything about Raihn is dangerous. He is a ruthless vampire, an efficient killer, an enemy to her father's crown... and her greatest competition. Yet, what terrifies Oraya most of all is that she finds herself oddly drawn to him.

But there's no room for compassion in the Kejari. War for the House of Night brews, shattering everything that Oraya thought she knew about her home. And Raihn may understand her more than anyone - but their blossoming attraction could be her downfall, in a kingdom where nothing is more deadly than love.

The Serpent and the Wings of Night is the first book in a new series of heart-wrenching romance, dark magic, and bloodthirsty intrigue, perfect for fans of From Blood and Ash and A Court of Thorns and Roses.

Everything would have been perfect but I found the plot pretty confusing and at some points I didn't even know what's going on.
Also some stuff wasn't explained well which also added onto my confusing. With the amount of gods, powers, people I couldn't catch up with everything

I couldn’t put it down. Received it Monday night and finished by Wednesday afternoon. 🫣 Took me through all the emotions and twisted my heart at the end. I can’t wait to get book two in my hands.

I didn't love this book at first, partially because I'd just read Fourth Wing, but reading it and it's sequel and then percolating on it led me to the conclusion that it's awesome. This is the first book, so it's a lot of exposition and world-building, but it still has great action and plot. The second book is where it's at though...

I loved this book. The world building was great. The conflict within the main character was good as well as the ending. I didn’t see it coming.

This book was engaging from the amount of action on every page, but at times it did feel packed in. The ending was full of plot twist after plot twist (which I personally enjoy in a book) but it left the majority of what the author built in this first book in a completely different direction than where I thought it was heading. I was disappointed in how Oraya’s character was left at the end, but I can see how it would be a great lead into a sequel. Overall, it was an entertaining read, and I enjoyed it. I will definitely read the sequel to see how everything pans out.
