I think my review of this book has definitely been influenced by having just read two long, heavy (physically and emotionally) books over the last month. This book starts out on a lighter note- it intertwines a fairytale with a coming of age story and a mystery which kept me reading. A little slow at parts but overall an enjoyable read.
Great story loved it
Loved this book!
This is definitely one of those stories that is going to stick in my mind forever. I checked this one out at the library, but after reading it, I will be adding it to my collection. Such a haunting and beautiful tale of how stories inform and shape our lives, and how are lives shape stories. Set in England during World War II, I was fascinated by the history of the Pied Piper project, saddened by the plight of the children, namely Hazel, Flora, Kelty, and Harry, and intrigued by how Patti Callahan Henry wove the fairytale story of Hazel and Flora throughout the novel. Everything was knit together so well that when the mystery was ultimately solved, I have to admit that I didn't see it coming. so well-written and lovely, this book is a triumph!
Loved … creative heart felt story.
