I truly liked it more than I thought. It is the prequel to the entire series. It shows how Nicki was actually the author of the diary Doon and Lina found in Sparks. It chronicles how she became the person she became and how it all started (the underground city and why and how it got there...her father is one of the builders and masterminds for it.)

It also covers about Hoyt and how he made contact with the aliens and warned the Presidents and how the Presidents all put their differences aside to save the earth and get over their egos and prevent war. However, like all those who preceeds them, things are forgotten and they go back to their anger and who owns what property and let's go to war.

It covers how one person (Mrs. Beesley)tries to do good but interprets God's messages through Althea (the Prophet) incorrectly and causes people to do things she feels is good. In other words, everyone took her words as gospel and she (although I strongly do believe is essentially good), had too much influnece and power and she started to get a swelled head, to put it bluntly.

Nicki is there brave and curious heroine who has a good backbone and tries to do good. It is through her actions that we see, not everything is as it seems...the albino bear, the Prophet, the house, etc.

Personally, if you read the entire series, re-read this one as the dessert. It really ties everything together and makes you appreciate the series more.
