The Program

In this “gripping tale for lovers of dystopian romance” (Kirkus Reviews), true feelings are forbidden, teen suicide is an epidemic, and the only solution is The Program.
Sloane knows better than to cry in front of anyone. With suicide now an international epidemic, one outburst could land her in The Program, the only proven course of treatment. Sloane’s parents have already lost one child; Sloane knows they’ll do anything to keep her alive. She also knows that everyone who’s been through The Program returns as a blank slate. Because their depression is gone—but so are their memories.
Under constant surveillance at home and at school, Sloane puts on a brave face and keeps her feelings buried as deep as she can. The only person Sloane can be herself with is James. He’s promised to keep them both safe and out of treatment, and Sloane knows their love is strong enough to withstand anything. But despite the promises they made to each other, it’s getting harder to hide the truth. They are both growing weaker. Depression is setting in.
And The Program is coming for them.

Fantastic book! Jumped right into the second one right away and downloaded the entire series. I really enjoyed feeling like I was a part of their lives, and I hope to see more of them towards the end of the series to bring everything together.
the best freaking book i’ve ever read. the storyline is so good especially with the continuing 2nd book
The book was engaging, but could have used a little more work. The exploration of mental health, and the way adults often mishandle it was well handled. The explanation behind the rise in suicide went almost completely unexplained. The central romance was unnecessary, something that could be over looked if the relationship wasn’t completely toxic. The book actually brought this up, but it was done by an antagonist, so it was quickly pushed aside, making the problem even more evident.
Younger me could NOT put this book down, however, Young's take on mental health doesn't sit right with me in this. I understand that it's set in the future, but it still could've been a bit more realistic.
This book made me cry! But I loved the pain. Also the romance was so genuine and I loved the characters
