Abbie awakens in a daze with no memory of who she is or how she landed in this unsettling condition. The man by her side claims to be her husband. He’s a titan of the tech world, the founder of one of Silicon Valley’s most innovative start-ups. He tells Abbie that she is a gifted artist, an avid surfer, a loving mother to their young son, and the perfect wife. He says she had a terrible accident five years ago and that, through a huge technological breakthrough, she has been brought back from the abyss.
She is a miracle of science.
But as Abbie pieces together memories of her marriage, she begins to question her husband’s motives—and his version of events. Can she trust him when he says he wants them to be together forever? And what really happened to her, half a decade ago?
Beware the man who calls you . . .

Thank you to netgalley for sending me an advanced copy! This book was not what I was expecting at all right from the beginning! Great read! I found it a very interesting perspective. The ending I feel a little confused by but it definitely got me thinking. It's an interesting concept and definitely glad I read it! I recommend it!
I was really looking forward to reading this book; it wasn’t at all what I was expecting. It wasn’t a thrill ride, nor was it a fast read, but I did enjoy it. The hi-tech ride it does take you on is interesting and a little mind bending. It is thoughtful and makes you wonder about our future…
Abbie wakes up in the hospital and sees her doting husband, Tim, at her bedside. She quickly learns that she actually died (what a bummer!), BUT her sweet husband "brought her back" as a cobot (companion robot). She looks just like Abbie (minus having lady bits) and even has her thoughts and memories (selective at best but hey, she's a bot, so she can't really complain). Hubby missed her so much that he just couldn't live without her.

NO. That is creepy and unacceptable, TIM.
The chapters alternate between Abbie-bot in current day told in a second person "you walk into the kitchen" sort of way that ultimately grew on me and past Abbie told by an unknown individual that worked within Tim's company and knows about Abbie (and Tim) prior to the incident.
This was the very definition of a page turner as Abbie-bot works to figure out what really happened - it doesn't take long to figure out that sweetie-pie Tim is a bit of a douchey egotistical liarface. I found myself rooting for Abbie although it was often hard to tell if it was for the real Abbie or Abbie-bot...or both.
If you think you'd hate this because you're not into that AI techie stuff, that's not the case. If you think this couldn't possibly have any twists or turns because it's AI techie stuff and it's all been done before, that's not the case. This is not a perfect book by any means, but it's a lot of fun.
Pleasantly surprised by this and will definitely be picking up more J.P. Delaney.
