The Penderwicks: A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits, and a Very Interesting Boy

This series of modern classics about the charming Penderwick family from National Book Award winner and New York Times bestseller Jeanne Birdsall is perfect for fans of Noel Streatfeild and Edward Eager. Over one million copies sold, now with a bright new look!

This summer the Penderwick sisters have a wonderful surprise: a holiday on the grounds of a beautiful estate called Arundel. Soon they are busy discovering the summertime magic of Arundel’s sprawling gardens, treasure-filled attic, tame rabbits, and the cook who makes the best gingerbread in Massachusetts. But the best discovery of all is Jeffrey Tifton, son of Arundel’s owner, who quickly proves to be the perfect companion for their adventures.

The icy-hearted Mrs. Tifton is not as pleased with the Penderwicks as Jeffrey is, though, and warns the new friends to stay out of trouble. Which, of course, they will—won’t they? One thing’s for sure: it will be a summer the Penderwicks will never forget.

Deliciously nostalgic and quaintly witty, this is a story as breezy and carefree as a summer day.

Friendship, growing up, family. What It's About: The Penderwick sisters, their widowed botanist father, and their dog, Hound, rent a lovely cottage on the Arundel estate for a three-week summer vacation. The Penderwicks is a story about four young girls and their father who break for the first time in a cottage on an estate called Arundel Hall located in the Berkshire Mountains. Though this wasn't their usual vacation destination, it would be the center of conversations for years.

I kinda like this book. I thought the first chapter in the book is bland but the more and the more I read this book. It gets more interesting. But the book is kinda slow-paced and I thought that it makes the story dull. But it has a lot of adventures which I like and also the characters. I also like the cover of the book with a color blue design and there are the Penderwicks children and their dog and rabbit:)

I love this story, and Sky is definitely my favorite character. There are some swear words and stuff, but otherwise a very good book.

It was tough getting into it because there were a lot of characters introduced in the first few pages, but once I got past the first few chapters it was a lovely story. The characters are unique and reasonably well-developed for a kid's book, and the story involved everything from following the rules, being polite, and kids recognizing that the adults are also complicated people.
