This has been sitting on my TBR for a HOT MINUTE. After burning through thriller after thriller, I found The Paris Apartment to be atmospherically creepy, but unfortunately pretty slow.
While I liked the concept of the book, some aspects of the book had caused me not to rate this higher. One being the characters. I don’t know what it was, but something about all of the characters was lacking in umph; they all seems to be missing something or weren’t quite complete in a dance that most of them didn’t have a whole lot of redeeming qualities, which made it hard to get through. Maybe that was part of the plan, but I don’t know.
The book did give me a Rear Window vibe and was reminiscent of old school thrillers from that era. I think, though, I wanted a little more shock value out of the big reveals towards the end, but was honestly kind of inspired by Jess’s growth at the end (albeit not big growth). Once I got going, the Paris Apartment’s plot did start moving quickly and makes for a decent read if you like the more atmospheric, slow burn kinda mystery.
