The Overnight Guest: A Deadly Snowstorm and a Haunted Past Combine in this Psychological Thiller Novel
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
"Fully realized, wholly absorbing and almost painfully suspenseful...The journey is mesmerizing." --New York Times
A woman receives an unexpected visitor during a deadly snowstorm in this chilling thriller from New York Times bestselling author Heather Gudenkauf.
True crime writer Wylie Lark doesn't mind being snowed in at the isolated farmhouse where she's retreated to write her new book. A cozy fire, complete silence. It would be perfect, if not for the fact that decades earlier, at this very house, two people were murdered in cold blood and a girl disappeared without a trace.
As the storm worsens, Wylie finds herself trapped inside the house, haunted by the secrets contained within its walls--haunted by secrets of her own. Then she discovers a small child in the snow just outside. After bringing the child inside for warmth and safety, she begins to search for answers. But soon it becomes clear that the farmhouse isn't as isolated as she thought, and someone is willing to do anything to find them.

It isn't the dark you should be afraid of... it's the monsters who step out into the light that you need to fear.
Alone at her family's farmhouse, Wylie ends up with an unexpected overnight guest during a winter storm. Also unexpected is that she will be forced to confront a painful and violent event in her past.
This starts out as a bit of a slow burn mystery and then turns into a fast-paced thriller with a few twists and turns.
This book was a great who done it. I was hooked to keep reading it to find out who the killer was. The author did a good job adding to the excitement with the weather conditions. Our book club members mainly all enjoyed this book.
Wow, this book is written so well you think you are actually in Iowa watching what's going on. I like her technique of a book in a book, three different stories at a time. At first its a little hard to follow but at the end it comes together nicely .
Unfortunately, I knew what was going on pretty quickly in. It made the rest of the book a little slow.
This book was very confusing at the beginning of most chapters, it did t come together until the middle towards the end of chapters. I hate books like that. After the confusion the book was actually a good read. It all made sense and the ending made me feel happy for the main characters! Not the best of books of read which prompt me to give 3.5 -4 stars. 🤷🏽♀️
