"In Five Years" is a novel that challenges the typical romance genre, requiring careful consideration of both its synopsis and comparable works. The story centres around Dannie, whose seemingly perfect life unravels when she falls asleep and wakes up five years in the future, in an unfamiliar bed, with a different man and an unexpected engagement ring. This shocking revelation leads her to become obsessed with her future, causing her to put her present life on hold.
Readers may struggle to connect with Dannie initially due to her reserved nature. However, as the narrative unfolds, glimpses into her past begin to evoke sympathy for her character. The friendship between Dannie and Bella is a standout aspect of the book, with their dynamic and emotional bond portrayed beautifully throughout their shared memories.
While the novel features elements of love and friendship, it takes unexpected turns that challenge the conventional idea of a happy ending. As the story progresses, it culminates in an emotionally charged, heartbreaking, and beautifully written finale. "In Five Years" is ultimately a unique love story that comes highly recommended—but be prepared for an ending that will tug at your heartstrings.
Easy quick read. Good for those who love NYC with a touching story.
Interesting read about a woman who wakes up in a different life, only to realize it’s actually her life in the future.
The plot of this book did not play out the way that I thought. I was slightly disappointed In The way the story played out.
Didn’t want it to end! Great book.
