The Night Prince (Deluxe Edition) (Wolf King, 2)

From USA Today bestselling author Lauren Palphreyman comes the highly anticipated sequel to The Wolf King, a romantasy for fans of enemies to lovers, shifters, forbidden romance, villains you love to hate (or maybe just love!), and werewolves.

"Let me have you. Just once. Please."

Aurora is caught between powerful alphas as they fight for the Wolf Throne. But darker forces are rising...

Aurora may have survived the Wolf King, but his bite marks her skin. In accordance with wolf law, that makes her his property. Now, he wants her back.

To beat him and take his throne, Aurora and Callum must form a dangerous alliance with one of the most feared Wolves in the Kingdom, Blake. He is their enemy, but he has entangled his life with Aurora's--meaning she cannot harm him without forfeiting her own life.

As she fights to break their connection, she suspects Blake is keeping secrets about a dark power that rises in the north, and the unsettling nature of the bond between them. It seems there is a bigger game at play than who sits on the Wolf Throne--one that threatens both the Kingdom of Wolves, and the Kingdom of Men.

With her wolf awakening, enemies closing in, relationships tested, and secrets revealed--Aurora may be the only one who can stop an ancient evil from rising.

If she can figure out who to trust.

If she can figure out where she, and her heart, belong.

If she can stay alive.

Delicious tropes:

  • Wolf shifters
  • Princess x alpha
  • Captive heroine
  • Enemies to lovers
  • Love triangle done RIGHT
  • Forbidden romance
  • Humans vs wolves war

Praise for The Wolf King:

"Had to read it twice, it was so good!" -- Amazon review

"If Outlander and a werewolf pack had a love child, this book would be it. If you want a book that's got just enough magic, a soft but strong heroine, alpha energy without the cringe, Scottish werewolves, kilts, vibes, emotional depth, fun narration and a plot that keeps moving, this is the one." -- Goodreads review

"Masterfully balances suspense, passion, and character development, all wrapped up in a captivating paranormal romance setting." -- Amazon review

"If you're into werewolf romances or fantasy and are looking for something fast paced & exciting, this is it." -- Goodreads review

Why does the author leave us on cliffhangers?! Ahh! Can’t wait for the 3rd book, but hope it has my idea of a HEA. The FMC keeps saying she has a choice, so I hope she chooses her first love when all this is said and done. Guess I won’t find out until the summer of 2026. Until then, I wait painfully.

I’m royally upset (in a good way) that I have to wait a year+ for the next book. I do have mixed feelings about this one and I find that other people did also, but that is because Book 1: the Wolf King was the introduction and there was a ton of world building, custom introductions and development between characters. Book 2 - we are now settled in, we are ready for everything to happen. We are so desperately eager to know what is going on between Blake and Aurora’s bond and what that means for Callum and Aurora and about what exactly she is and what it means for the future. This is not including WTF is happening between the northern and southern borderlands either, which its own thing entirely. There is so much tension (AND YEARNING) and so much development we are craving there was no possible way that book 2 could encompass all of it so though I’m excited for the third- I’m if not dying to know what’s going to happen. And like Blake, I will be impatiently tapping my fingers on my desk. And if I had to pick a side (because unlike 2011 where I didn’t choose between Team Jacob or Edward since I felt that Bella should just be alone forever), I’m 110% Team Blake. I absolutely love his development as a person. We receive so much insight on who he was prior to becoming the alpha of Lowfell. ON TOP OF THAT, the fact that Aurora is his mate and he WILLINGLY ALLOWS her to stay with Callum (AND BED HIM) shows significant amounts of restraint. You can see the way he yearns for her, but she’s so entrapped with the idea of Callum it’s infuriating. Blake challenges her, understands her and willingly almost died when he told her to release the bond so that she could be free from him. AND MIND YOU, she was the one that held on. I will die on that hill (that Blake and Aurora should be the end game). And if she goes back to Callum, I’ll be pissed. And as much as I love a girl boss moment, if she ends up breaking the bond with Blake just to also deny Callum, I’ll be more livid. HIGHLY RECOMMEND LISTENING TO THE AUDIOBOOK !!

My goodness, Blake is an enigmatic and compelling man. I genuinely enjoyed the fleshing out of characters and especially Phillip. I had my suspicions of the reason for his ire detailed in the first book. I found him to be a lovely piece to the story. Further fleshing it out. I enjoy the continued nods to previous supporting characters that were spared from being erased for convenience of the story. I would say the book would benefit from an extra 200 pages to fully flesh out the supporting cast and their relationships. Ian felt like a boring and predictable blip. While his motives were abundantly clear, he was reduced to a contrived one dimensional villain who ended up dying for plot fodder anyways. At least flesh him out if he is to have a major role such as KIDNAPPING. Also, while I completely understand her choice to go to Callum when she finally puts the very obvious reality together I still found myself not agreeing. Her motivations were clear, and she wanted to both be comforted and release her ire on the man she loves. Who among us hasn't felt that pull. But for someone who claims to not want to be bound to a male I would've preferred that when presented with the two options that she chose neither instead, and chose to comfort herself. I want Aurora to put herself first more through action than through thought alone.
