The woods are creeping in on a nanny and two young girls in this chilling modern Gothic thriller. This book tackles so many deep subjects: environmentalism, postpartum depression, mental illness, suicide, and folklore/deeply-held beliefs. The main character manages to be likable and sympathetic even as she (and everyone else) seem to spin off into madness. This is a solid book with a beautiful Nordic backdrop, and it manages to explore important themes while building a good story.
