My mom read me this book when I was little, it's one of her favorites. I re-read it as part of the current Goodreads Reading Challenge. I'm glad I did, there's so much about it that I either didn't remember or didn't understand as a child. This book is, at it's core, really about how the most important things in life are intangible: love, laughter, friendship, memories, etc. and how adults often forget what is really important.

My favorite book of all times! This is such a compelling story full of magic and wisdom! Is an Unforgettable and extraordinary journey that we can all learn from! And I too like the pilot look at the stars at night and imagine him smiling downy from his planet

The main take aways I got from this book were to appreciate the experiences of life. Look at what I have and what is around me. I don't think you really need to be a child to understand or follow this lesson. In fact I know quite a few children who are too busy to appreciate what they are exposed to either. I also have looked at many of my childhood experiences and realized I didn't fully what was happening until I reflected back on them as an adult, I was unable to appreciate them basically since I didn't have that frame of reference.
