The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper is a classic and rightfully so. I have read other "classics" and questioned being allocated to that category, but that is not the case here. I won't summarize the story, but realize that the movie and the book are not the same. The movie is one of my favorites of all time. The book required that I adjust my mindset, because the movie was made "in the spirit" of the book. Character relationships in the book are different than in the movie, etc. So let's leave it at that. The action is realistically descriptive, which gave it a timeless feel, where there was a bit of adjustment required for reading a story that was written almost 200 years ago. Another thing I absolutely loved was the detailed description. In many cases, I found them to be quite beautiful.
I've heard some people describe the book in terms of "politically correctness" and I find that ridiculous. It was written in another time. Bottom line, by the end, I was completely enthralled. I had no idea there were additional books that followed and I will one day pick those up, as well. Highly recommended!
