The Last Mrs. Parrish: A Reese's Book Club Pick

A mesmerizing debut about a coolly manipulative woman and a wealthy "golden couple," from a stunning new voice in psychological suspense.

Amber Patterson is fed up. She’s tired of being a nobody: a plain, invisible woman who blends into the background. She deserves more—a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted.

To everyone in the exclusive town of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut, Daphne—a socialite and philanthropist—and her real-estate mogul husband, Jackson, are a couple straight out of a fairy tale.

Amber’s envy could eat her alive . . . if she didn't have a plan. Amber uses Daphne’s compassion and caring to insinuate herself into the family’s life—the first step in a meticulous scheme to undermine her. Before long, Amber is Daphne’s closest confidante, traveling to Europe with the Parrishes and their lovely young daughters, and growing closer to Jackson. But a skeleton from her past may undermine everything that Amber has worked towards, and if it is discovered, her well-laid plan may fall to pieces.

With shocking turns and dark secrets that will keep you guessing until the very end, The Last Mrs. Parrish is a fresh, juicy, and utterly addictive thriller from a diabolically imaginative talent.

This book had the same type of unsettling feel as Gone Girl and The Wife Between Us. All the characters were disturbing in their own way. I appreciated how it felt like we were getting the story told from all their perspectives.

More than 50% was written by the antagonists POV and then the next 30% by the protagonist and then the last 20% written back and forth between the two. The low review comes from the evil of the two main characters- it just left me disgusted. Not gory or anything, but just evil people. I do think people w...read more

Predictable but still an interesting read. I was eager to read the next page and see how the details played out!

Super predictable, writing style seems to be a lot more direct (which I don't mind, I never have to use my brain to understand it, but some people like a good challenge.) Easy read, although I do wish the twist was more prominent. I did really enjoy the POV switch in the middle, but it felt really repetitive in the plot. Instead of a typical book switching POVs and continuing the plot, this one switched and then essentially retold the story. Un...read more
