The Jasad Heir (The Scorched Throne, 1)

"A remarkable, razor-sharp debut that cuts straight to the heart."―Chelsea Abdullah, author of The Stardust Thief

A fugitive queen strikes a bargain with her greatest enemy that could resurrect her scorched kingdom or leave it in ashes forever in this unmissable, slow-burn, Egyptian-inspired epic fantasy debut.

Ten years ago, the kingdom of Jasad burned. Its magic was outlawed. Its royal family murdered. At least, that's what Sylvia wants people to believe. The Heir of Jasad escaped the massacre, and she intends to stay hidden, especially from the armies of Nizahl that continue to hunt her people.

But a moment of anger changes everything. When Arin, the Nizahl Heir, tracks a group of Jasadi rebels to her village, Sylvia accidentally reveals her magic--and captures his attention. Now Sylvia's forced to make a deal with her greatest enemy: Help him hunt the rebels in exchange for her life.

A deadly game begins. Sylvia can't let Arin discover her identity, even as hatred shifts into something more between the Heirs. And as the tides change around her, Sylvia will have to choose between the life she wants and the one she abandoned.

The scorched kingdom is rising, and it needs a queen.

Praise for The Jasad Heir:

"Will have you turning pages in a frenzy." ―Shelley Parker-Chan, author of She Who Became the Sun

"The type of mythological and romantic tale you would bargain your last breath for... A book that coils you into its serpentine grasp." ―Observer

JUST GET THRIUGH THE FIRST PART OF THE BOOK! I sat on this for like two months before i finally read past chapter 2-3 and IMMEDIATELY STARTED BOOK 2 when done!!! It’s so well done and paced nicely for a duology. I would love more of their story!! Arin is a book boyfriend you will never let go of after book 2.

A typical chosen one princess story but in a unique magical world. The MC wasn't likable and the story gets lost in the weeds. The heavy world-building wasn't interesting and I had to force myself to finish. This would be a perfect book for someone who likes heavy descriptions, an enemy-to-lovers trope with a redemption/ discovering who you are arc.

I loved this? I’ve read mixed reviews on this and I’m puzzled as to why. I loved it! Our main character is flawed and scared and making decisions that don’t feel like her own but she’s trying. She’s torn in a million directions and I love the conflict. The weakest part of this book is the challenges—“Sylvia” competes in three epic challenges but they’re not very epic. I enjoyed them, but they were a vehicle for more of Sylvia, Sefa and Marek. I even enjoyed our evil knight in shining violet armor. Their tension was good and their relationship was deliciously slow burn, but high high tension. The ending is brutal; power and more than I could have wished for. Listen, read this if you love magic; the swirl of memories and found family. I cannot wait for the next book and I wish gleefully read it. If you dislike slower books, that explain and explore and build characters slowly—this isn’t for you. But for me? This is my perfect fantasy book. Except I wish the challenges were a bit more creative. Whatever. I round up.
