The Hygge Holiday: The warmest, funniest, cosiest romantic comedy of the year

The perfect recipe for hygge: make a hot chocolate, draw the curtains, snuggle under a blanket and read your way to happiness!

It's autumn in Yulethorpe and everyone is gloomy. It's cold, drizzly and the skies are permagrey. The last shop on the high street - an adorable little toy shop - has just shut its doors. Everything is going wrong for Yulethorpe this autumn. Until Clara Kristensen arrives.

Clara is on holiday but she can see the potential in the pretty town, so she rolls up her sleeves and sets to work. Things are looking up until Joe comes to Yulethorpe to find out exactly what is going on with his mother's shop. Joe is Very Busy and Important in the City and very sure that Clara is up to no good. Surely no one would work this hard just for the fun of it?

Can a man who answers emails at 3 a. m. learn to appreciate the slower, happier, hygge things in life - naps, candles, good friends and maybe even falling in love?

I finished this book with a smile. Was it an awesome read? Yes, it was, to a certain extent. I was already interested in the concept of hygge before I picked up this book (which was why the title drew me in in the first place), but reading this made me more compelled to find out more about it. Maybe even try learning it?

Everything about this book was great: the plot, the setting, the concept... the characters, though, could use some work. It might be because I can't really connect with Clara in some parts of the story. The fact that she tries to bring Joe away from work whenever she could, even when he has upcoming deadlines, makes me realise that... hygge is not for everybody. It made my fingers curl when Joe gave in sometimes, because, let's face it, his job requires him to be on the go all the time. Either that, or he will get fired. This tells me that Clara just doesn't understand even if she says that she does. Oh, and when Joe left his team members so he could go and continue his hygge holiday, it made me want to kill him. Dump all the work on your team members while you have some fun? No. An absolute no. A good leader will never do that to his/her team mates. Really. Not cool.

But as I mentioned earlier, this book did leave a smile. It wasn't only at the end, but through many parts of the story, I found myself smiling, because it was that hygge (not sure if I used the word correctly hahaha). I definitely enjoyed it.
