A steamy enemies-to-lovers romance, magic, and destiny are swept together in The Hurricane Wars, the spellbinding debut in a fantasy romance trilogy set in a Southeast Asia–inspired world

All Talasyn has ever known is the Hurricane Wars. Growing up an orphan in a nation under siege by the ruthless Night Emperor, she found her family among the soldiers who fight for freedom. But Talasyn is hiding a deadly secret: light magic runs through her veins, a blazing power that can cut through the Night Empire’s shadows, believed to have been wiped out years ago.

Prince Alaric is his father’s weapon, sworn to obliterate any threats to the Night Empire’s rule with his mighty shadow magic. He and Talasyn lock into a deadly dance that neither can seem to truly win, until, in a clash of light and dark, their powers merge to create a strange new force—and a dangerous, forbidden attraction reveals itself.

This war can only end with them. But an even greater danger is coming, and Talasyn and Alaric must decide... can they work together to save their world, or will they end up destroying each other?

Light and Dark intertwine to ensure a future, with lies hanging on by a thread.

✨ Prior to reading, I discovered that this storyline was originally from a Rey/Kylo fanfic. To be honest, I think this knowledge helped keep my interest throughout the novel because I felt like I was just continuing down the Star Wars storyline.

✨ Many aspects were changed in this story (no lightsabers, names, ancestry, history, etc), but there was still a battle between light and dark with the growing discovery that maybe neither side is as bad as the other originally thought.

✨ The story is told from the POV of Talasyn and Alaric. Often I do not love the switching POV, especially when it is between the enemies to lovers. However, I loved reading Alaric’s POV because he is supposed to be seen as the, “bad guy,” but while reading his words, he is anything but the, “bad guy.”

✨ Overall, this was an easy read and took the edge off my romantasy craving.

I couldn't stop reading it. I feel like it needed more world building for the book to truly shine and become immersive. The characters feel realistic and relatable to me. They are so flawed with major trauma they need to work through. And they are terrible at communicating with each other but that is what is so refreshing compared to other romantasy books. It's also a slow burn with so many ebbs and flows. I hope that the next book will find the main characters really coming into their own and growing. This book reads like an appetizer.

I understand that it’s a slow burn, but we definitely needed more from Alaric and Talisan especially at the end when they parted from each other. Like I read alllll the way to the end just for them to act unbothered and lack communication STILL by the end? It’s annoying. Makes me not wanna go through a second book to watch them do the same thing, but I want to hope they’ll evolve more.
