Haunted house stories are my absolute favorite and I’m always looking for new and unique renditions of the classic tale. Burns’s novella The House on Abigail Lane takes the haunted house story and expands it to a metaphysical cosmic mystery with no clear answers.
The story is written like a documentary with a researcher meticulously reporting on all of the documented phenomena occurring inside house 56 on Abigail Lane. The house has a habit of mysteriously spiriting away individuals inside never to be seen again. Strange smells, noises, and otherworldly encounters are also documented by those lucky enough to make it back out of the house.
Because this is a novella there isn’t really a storyline or characters to follow. It is a study on a mysterious house and the otherworldly beings that are residing inside.
This was short but sweet, and I loved the unique take on the haunted house story. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a short but eerie haunted house story that breaks the mold! All Hail the Sunflower God 🌻🌻🌻
