The Girl Who Played with Fire (Millennium)

Mikael Blomkvist, crusading journalist and publisher of the magazine Millennium, has decided to run a story that will expose an extensive sex trafficking operation between Eastern Europe and Sweden, implicating well-known and highly placed members of Swedish society, business, and government.

But he has no idea just how explosive the story will be until, on the eve of publication, the two investigating reporters are murdered. And even more shocking for Blomkvist: the fingerprints found on the murder weapon belong to Lisbeth Salander--the troubled, wise-beyond-her-years genius hacker who came to his aid in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and who now becomes the focus and fierce heart of The Girl Who Played with Fire.

As Blomkvist, alone in his belief in Salander's innocence, plunges into an investigation of the slayings, Salander herself is drawn into a murderous hunt in which she is the prey, and which compels her to revisit her dark past in an effort to settle with it once and for all.

Great book - moves slow is some spots, but once the action picks up, you're hooked. I have a major literary crush on Mikael Bloomkist!

After reading the first part, I was reluctant to go straight to the second. Well, it certainly did not disappoint!
In much of the book, I missed the character of Lisbeth, who is in the background while the story revolves around Mikael and several new characters. However, the plot is better built than in the first part, it develops faster and more dynamically, and in fact, we learn much more about Lisbeth than ever before. And Im not gonna say anything more.
Points for opening another important social topic! A few more points for the fact that I didn't mind reading this part at bedtime and it seemed a bit less brutal (or disturbing?) to me. (or I just got used to it.)
I didn't choose the best timing, reading this not-a-feel-good series during the christmas time, but...anyway, well done, Stieg Larsson!

Second installment in the Millenium Trilogy. This one is much more personal and relates to the actual story of the central character Lisbeth Salander. The previous book was more about the character of Mikael Blomkvist, though it was clear that there were stories to be told about Salander that would unfold in future books.

Again, great read. After reading the book I watched the Swedish movie which changed a few, what I thought critical, points.

Better have The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest handy when you finish this one...
