The Geek Feminist Revolution

The Geek Feminist Revolution is a collection of essays by double Hugo Award-winning essayist and fantasy novelist Kameron Hurley.

The book collects dozens of Hurley's essays on feminism, geek culture, and her experiences and insights as a genre writer, including "We Have Always Fought," which won the 2013 Hugo for Best Related Work. The Geek Feminist Revolution will also feature several entirely new essays written specifically for this volume.

Unapologetically outspoken, Hurley has contributed essays to The Atlantic, Locus, Tor.com, and others on the rise of women in genre, her passion for SF/F, and the diversification of publishing.

Everyone who considers themselves a writer, geek, consumer of media, or feminist should read this. This is a thought-provoking look at feminism in media and stories, and it talks about the job of every writer to look at power and what power implies about personal responsibility when it comes to telling stories for future generations. I'm recommending this to everyone who has seen me reading this book or asked me about it, and I believe that people can only feel more enriched for reading it. Although there is a lot in it for current or future authors, I think it's equally applicable for anyone who reads, watches movies, or otherwise consumes any sort of media. It's applicable and easy to read and the author seems so approachable and makes her writing assessable for everyone.
