Thank you NetGalley, Author Haley Newlin, and Mad Axe Media for the eArc copy of The Film You Are About to See exchange for an honest review. The following is my unfiltered honest opinion.

4.5 Stars

Grab your popcorn buckets, fill your drinks, and maybe bring a security blanket as you embark on this spooktacular tale that follows a group in 1959 as their first "From Dusk Till Dawn" drive in event turns deadly.
Newlin's love of classical horror shines through in her tale. Every page of this story is paced in a way to keep you on the edge of your seat. Just as you manage to catch a breath it's snagged away rapidly. This book is about to make me the most insufferable person with how much I will be recommending it.

Pros:
Newlin was able to write a horrific period piece in a way that truly highlights the era it's dated in. Very rarely in modern novella's and stories can you find an author that easily transports you into the time. Her ability to pace and build tension within a novella is another hard task that I feel she accomplished very well.

June was a very interesting character. From the moment she came on page until the last, I was constantly curious and guessing. Many may find this as a negative, but I enjoy the lack of information we have on June. It's refreshing and allows for speculation. It gives the mind a sense of the unknown. Don't get me wrong. I do wish there was more, but I'm glad there isn't.

Normally, I'm not a huge fan of multi - POVs, because I've seen too many times where authors fail at keeping the voice distinct. Newlin's ability to seamlessly flip and shift the tone / voice effortless was a breath of fresh air. It was easy and simple to tell who was being followed and who was talking.

Cons:
On the downside there were moments the book felt a little too simplistic. It almost seemed as if it was veering into the YA age range. There needs to be just a dash more trust and faith that the audience will understand. Do not be afraid to challenge us.

Overall: Newlin is a fantastic author that reminded me why I love horror movies so much. This book was a heartfelt gory love letter to some of the biggest classics that paved the way to the nightmares theaters bring us today. She has encapsulated that feeling I used to get with my grandparents and parents as we would curl up on the couch for a late night showings on our CRT TV. This is a true reminder of why the theater is called a theater.

Yes, I'm very passionate about my love of this novella. I really hope it gets a movie deal and a graphic audio because it would make for an excellent version of both.
