The Ex-Husband: An absolutely gripping psychological thriller with a killer twist

You thought you were safe. Until he moved in next door...

I haven't lived here long. The house is small and a little rundown, but each piece of faded floral wallpaper I peel away feels like unwrapping the second chance I never thought I'd get. I'm finally free to wear what I want, and I don't flinch when I accidently burn dinner. My new home is warm, and the kids are safe inside. Anywhere would feel idyllic after the nightmare marriage I've just escaped.

But then I see my ex-husband Craig stroll past my window and let himself into the house next door. Fear chokes me. How did he find me? Does he want me back, or to destroy me for good?

As the removals van pulls away, Craig tells me it's just a coincidence, that we can all get along and be good neighbours. But at night I lie awake listening to the sound of laughter and lovemaking through the thin wall that separates us, wondering if his new girlfriend is safe. And in the morning, I rifle through his trash, trying to guess his next move. I know how crazy I look, but I'd do anything to protect my children.

Weeks later, when the night air fills with smoke, and this quiet street dances with blue and red flashing police lights, all the secrets behind our two closed doors will be revealed. But after everything that's happened, will anyone believe I'm innocent?

An absolutely unputdownable psychological thriller from an Amazon No1. bestseller that will keep you turning pages long into the night. Fans of The Wife Between Us, The Family Upstairs and The Girl on the Train will be totally hooked!

The book begins with the police attending a garden where a body is found in a bonfire and it goes on to tell the story of what happens leading up to that discovery and after too.

Wow, this was fantastic, but also so sad too. Delving into the life of a woman who has been abused both mentally and physically by her narcissistic ex-husband, and just when she is rebuilding her life after getting away, he is back to torment her.
I could not stop reading this book, it captured me thoroughly. This is very insightful and thought-provoking in that you really cannot tell what goes on behind closed doors, and the way a partner can twist things to make out you are in the wrong.

It was written so well and the ending shocked me, absolutely brilliant read!

So this book is highly recommended on goodreads with close to 4 stars so I was happy to get a copy of it. The best way to start this review is to check out the spoiler free synopsis: We have Leah who is recently divorced "escaped" from her ex husband Craig and has moved away with her two daughters. Until her ex husband "happens" to move right next to her...... Ohhhhh, Domestic tension!

Not really. So you already know the plot of this book and guess what? She doesn't meet her ex husband to almost page 100 by Kindle. You have a couple of "misses" where you know what is going to happen but takes it's time. This just leaves a slow moving book where the first 100 pages I was literally hoping this book would fast forward. I hate skipping pages on a book I'm reviewing so I trudged along like the dutifully reviewer I am. Yes, thank you.

Once they meet the book does pick up. Craig is a certifiable dooshbag and you start to really dislike him and there is a good amount of sleazy beach read to look forward too. It does become entertaining as Leah fights to get her life back. The ending is nails.

I just can't get past the slow beginning though which is why I ultimately think the book is just average overall. It's long but if you start on page 80 you knock it down to it's correct length. So I recommend reading this on a beach and just tearing out the first third of this book. But please recycle those pages of course.
