The Distance Between Us

Money can't buy a good first impression.

Seventeen-year-old Caymen Meyers learned early that the rich are not to be trusted. And after years of studying them from behind the cash register of her mom's porcelain-doll shop, she has seen nothing to prove otherwise. Enter Xander Spence—he's tall, handsome, and oozing rich. Despite his charming ways and the fact that he seems to be one of the first people who actually gets her, she's smart enough to know his interest won't last. Because if there's one thing she's learned from her mother's warnings, it's that the rich have a short attention span. But just when Xander's loyalty and attentiveness are about to convince Caymen that being rich isn't a character flaw, she finds out that money is a much bigger part of their relationship than she'd ever realized. With so many obstacles standing in their way, can she close the distance between them?

This book made you see both sides of the story, between the rich and poor and the challenges that not only the couple faces, but with the family and their approval. Most of the book took you through Caymens side and the relationship she had with her mom and how her mom, based on her backstory, hated the rich and for who they were. Soon, Caymen makes the decision on her own that the rich aren't all as bad as her mom makes them out to be, but is scared to tell her mom, whom she's so close with, that she's fallen in love with the rich, because of her own mom's past and how it ended with her. The book isn't one id probably read again, but was definitely an interesting one to read overall.

I'm torn between giving this a 4 or a 5... oh gosh.

You know, I adored Pivot Point & Split Second but it has become crystal clear that her contemporary novels are just not for me. This was fluffy and cute, sure. But I never really liked the characters all that much. I adore Kasie's writing so this isn't a break up by all means, but I would only recommend this one to those that love cute, fluffy YA.
