I read The Devil's Arithmetic with my two daughters, ages 14 and 11 1/2. It was a little hard for the younger one to grasp, but my 14 year old was moved by the subject, especially after having just read The Diary of Anne Frank. Jane Yolen did a superb job of leading the younger reader down the difficult and troubling path of The Holocaust.
Wry well written as it gives many visual examples of what they saw, smelled and felt during a time in history most of us couldn’t imagine being a part of in any aspect.
