The Dating Playbook

When a personal trainer agrees to fake date her client, all rules are out the window in this "fun, heartfelt, and totally relatable" romantic comedy named one of the best of the year by USA Today, NPR, and Entertainment Weekly (Abby Jimenez, NYT bestselling author of Life's Too Short).

When it comes to personal training, Taylor Powell kicks serious butt. Unfortunately, her bills are piling up, rent is due, and the money situation is dire. Taylor needs more than the support of her new best friends, Samiah and London. She needs a miracle.

And Jamar Dixon might just be it. The oh-so-fine former footballer wants back into the NFL, and he wants Taylor to train him. There's just one catch--no one can know what they're doing. But when they're accidentally outed as a couple, Taylor's game plan is turned completely upside down. Is Jamar just playing to win . . . or is he playing for keeps?

The Boyfriend Project was one of my favorite romance reads of 2020 and I was so excited to see this one hit Netgalley and that I got approved for it!

I enjoyed the storyline for The Dating Playbook! I don't read many sports romance novels so I was excited to start this one! It did not disappoint. The banter between Taylor and Jamar. It was so fun seeing Taylor push Jamar and my favorite part was when it came to meal planning. There's even a scene where Jamar accuses Taylor of liking vegetables a little too much. It was a great scene and made me laugh. The banter definitely lent to the development of the romance between the two.

Although they have different lifestyles it didn't feel like Jamar was better than Taylor for having money or that he saw Taylor has inadequate given her lifestyle. I liked getting to see both of their families and the dynamics each of them came from. I also liked that the author shed light on the possibility that Taylor could have a learning disability because we don't often see that in contemporary. It was a nice addition to the story.

Overall I definitely recommend this to those who enjoyed The Boyfriend Project and other adult romances out there these days. I was lucky enough to listen to the audiobook and felt it was well done. I recommend it to avid audiobook listeners for sure!
