The Butterfly Garden (The Collector, 1)

An Amazon Charts bestseller.

Near an isolated mansion lies a beautiful garden.

In this garden grow luscious flowers, shady trees...and a collection of precious "butterflies"--young women who have been kidnapped and intricately tattooed to resemble their namesakes. Overseeing it all is the Gardener, a brutal, twisted man obsessed with capturing and preserving his lovely specimens.

When the garden is discovered, a survivor is brought in for questioning. FBI agents Victor Hanoverian and Brandon Eddison are tasked with piecing together one of the most stomach-churning cases of their careers. But the girl, known only as Maya, proves to be a puzzle herself.

As her story twists and turns, slowly shedding light on life in the Butterfly Garden, Maya reveals old grudges, new saviors, and horrific tales of a man who'd go to any length to hold beauty captive. But the more she shares, the more the agents have to wonder what she's still hiding...

It was good until it wasn't. The ending ruined it honestly.

I read this book in the space of two days as I was desperate to know what happened. The ending wasn’t really what I expected and I personally found some elements of the ending quite confusing. It felt like the book was finished too quickly, literally the space of a few pages. Overall I enjoyed it, it just left me with questions.

The language was different than what I’m used to going in, but once my mind kicked into gear, DAAAAAAAANG. This was a fun read! I was hooked and really wanted to see where it went. The story was psychologically provoking and fresh! I didn’t want it to end :/ Now I kind of want to talk about it with someone. I wanted to read more of the Gardener’s story, though. It was a quick read that I wish had included more bulk. Given the fact that it follows a primary character around, though, it’s not surprising that you don’t get a glimpse into more.
