I struggled in the beginning of this book. For about the first half, despite being encouraged by many points as I read along, I found it difficult to follow. And because of that I dragged the reading of this book longer than I should have. Interestingly a little through the second half it became much more easier to follow and comprehend. Not sure if it was because of the author's direction took a turn in coming to an end or because I became better familiar with the author's style of writing. Either way I'm glad I plunged on and finished it. I'd actually like to try reading it again in the future to see if I can get more from it than this first read. In regards to the author's theological direction I often felt lost and wondered how much one can possibly expound from a short verse without losing the point and direction. But as he came to a close he did an excellent job of tying it all up together. So I think I get it. The bruised reed and smoking flax are those that struggle in faith and are slow in growth, the weak and immature Christian who is discouraged and may often feel hopeless or useless. And that basically that the Lord will complete the work He started in you. I believe his message is an encouragement to those and ultimately for all of us because we believers all go through periods of discouragement. I love how he continually points us to Christ and what Christ has accomplished for us and that without Christ we are and have nothing.
