The Breakdown: A Novel

Now A Major Motion Picture Blackwater Lane starring Minka Kelly, Dermot Mulroney, and Maggie Grace.

THE NEW CHILLING, PROPULSIVE NOVEL FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES AND USA TODAY BESTSELLING BEHIND CLOSED DOORS.

If you can't trust yourself, who can you trust?

Cass is having a hard time since the night she saw the car in the woods. It was on the winding rural road, in the middle of a downpour, and a woman was sitting inside--the woman who was killed. She's been trying to put the crime out of her mind; what could she have done, really? It's a dangerous road to be on in the middle of a storm, and she probably would have been hurt herself if she'd stopped. Not only that, her husband would be furious if he knew she'd broken her promise not to take that shortcut home.

But since then, she's been forgetting every little thing. Where she left the car; if she took her pills; even the alarm code.

The only thing she can't forget is that woman, the woman she might have saved, and the terrible nagging guilt.

And the silent calls she's receiving, or the feeling that someone's watching her...

this was my first read by B.A Paris. i rated it a 2/5 on my other apps so im doing 4/10 here so it equals out lol. i feel like this was a redundant lifetime movie. it took quite a while to learn how everything tied into each other. it also felt a little rushed towards the end, because everything started to unfold rather quickly. overall the read was good. i listened to the audiobook so i finished in two days. i kind of had an idea one of the culprits was Matthew but i didn’t expect Rachel to be the killer.

This book is exceptionally well written. Paris introduces us to Cass, and as her mental state unravels, we find ourselves drawn into her descent, even to the point where she no longer trusts herself. The author masterfully portrays Cass’s psychological breakdown, leaving you questioning everything right along with her. From the gripping start to the intense finish, the story hooks you and doesn’t let go. I couldn’t put it down.

I won this in a Goodreads Giveaway. It was very well written and I really enjoyed this book. However, for me in a suspense/thriller I want to be going in a hundred different directions with a hundred different "who dunnits", unfortunately for me I figured the who and the how within the first 50 pages. So that dropped the excitement level down for me a little. I would still highly recommend this book.

This is my second B.A Paris book and she’s now 2/2 in mine. The way she captures you from the beginning of the book is genius, because it keeps me hanging on, wanting more and more and more. The characters were well played and made it difficult to figure out what truly happened. But BABY, I didn’t see the ending coming , not in 100 lifetimes and for me, that’s what truly makes me a fan. Another book well done

This book had me really annoyed with the main character throughout most of the book, at least the first half, and I thought maybe the title should’ve been Silent Calls but I told myself to stick with it and I’m glad I did. The story unravels into a much better mystery towards the end, I couldn’t put it down until I was done. Happy reading through to the end!
