The Boy on the Bridge

One exceptional boy journeys into the ashes of society to find the cure for a devastating plague in this riveting post-apocalyptic standalone set in the same world as the USA Today-bestselling The Girl With All the Gifts.

Once upon a time, in a land blighted by terror, there was a very clever boy.

The people thought the boy could save them, so they opened their gates and sent him out into the world.

To where the monsters lived.

"Strange and surprising and humane" (Lauren Beukes), The Boy on the Bridge is a gripping, powerful story that will make you question what it means to be human.

not sure…

I really liked the concept of this book when I read the description. I felt like more have could be done with the abuse situation plot, and would’ve liked to have seen more of their younger days. I thought it was strange how quick Hunter was to be friendly towards Riley when he returned after she “ruined his life”. I realize that she was supposed to be 18, but I thought Riley didn’t have much of a backbone when it came to Hunter, and her reasoning for not committing to him was unclear. Especially after she so rapidly forgave him for taking her virginity in front of a whole crowd of people in her nemesis’s bed. Another thing I wasn’t too fond of was some of the phrases Hunter used when he supposedly loved her. Saying “let me use this p&$$y” is kind of cringey when he supposedly worships her and respects her. I was into it for the first 300 pages or so, but it kind of dragged on after that.

Excellent prequel. AND THEN THE EPILOGUE. If you enjoyed the original Girl with all the Gifts you will completely love this one as well. I fell in love with the characters. Per Carey's usual they are completely and totally developed, and I loved every one of them. I wish there were more of that epilogue, I was fifty more of that epilogue.
