The Bookshop on the Corner: A Cozy Bookstore Romance Filled with Festive Cheer and Heartwarming Love, Discover This Charming Scottish Highlands Town (Scottish Village of Kirrenfief, 1)

By Jenny Colgan

Nina Redmond is a librarian with a gift for finding the perfect book for her readers. But can she write her own happy-ever-after? In this valentine to readers, librarians, and book-lovers the world over, the New York Times-bestselling author of Little Beach Street Bakery returns with a funny, charming, and moving feel-good novel for fans of Nina George’s The Little Paris Bookshop.

Nina is a literary matchmaker. Pairing a reader with that perfect book is her passion… and also her job. Or at least it was. Until yesterday, she was a librarian in the hectic city. But now the job she loved is no more.

Determined to start over and make a new life for herself, Nina moves to a sleepy village in the Scottish Highlands. There she buys a van and transforms it into a bookmobile — a mobile bookshop that she drives from neighborhood to neighborhood, changing one life after another with the power of storytelling.

From helping her grumpy landlord deliver a lamb, to sharing picnics with a charming train conductor who serenades her with poetry, Nina discovers there’s plenty of adventure, magic, and romance in a place that’s beginning to feel like home… a place where she just might be able to write her own happy ending.

Ann pick. A novel about a fired librarian who opens a bookmobile. She started reading it but paused because she felt guilty about not reading something practical. She hopes to come back to it.

I very much enjoyed reading this story about a girl named Nina who loves books more than anything else. When the libraries in her town begin to change their focus she is faced with figuring out what is next in her life. Nina goes on a real life adventure to make her dream of opening a bookshop come true.

The humor in this book is so cozy! For me it’s a perfect anecdote to my stress when things aren’t working out in my life. I laughed out loud so many times at how Nina handled things. She is too cute!!

4.25 stars!

I loved the first half of The Bookshop on the Corner... Nina's struggle to find her place, moving to Scotland, purchasing the van and launching the bookmobile. And I didn't mind that there were two love interests--I genuinely didn't know which one she'd end up with (even though I had my suspicions)--I was enjoying the ride! But--and I use but here lightly--the last quarter (??) of the book wasn't as strong for me. Especially when love interest #2 unexpectedly made another appearance after I thought we'd moved on from him. It took me out of the story. But I was satisfied with the ending and thoroughly enjoyed getting lost in this little book about books set in the Highlands! It's every book-lover's dream job come true.

The title of this one is still bugging me, though. There was never a reference to a corner--that I can remember?? I feel like it's an inside joke that's gone over my head. ;)
