4.5 stars. It took me much longer to read this than it should have, but I was also participating in Nanowrimo and reading another novel, as well. It is also really hard to review a book that you know so well through the film. I have loved Stand by Me, the film based on this story, since I was a kid myself, and reading the book made those characters come to life even more than the film. This book also made me appreciate the writing of Stephen King. The man can weave a tale. The story of these four friends will probably stick with me for days, even though it's a story I have known for years.

Another great King short story. I had seen "stand by me" years ago and the book and the movie were very close to each other. I considered myself fortuante for seeing the movie first because I could visualize the characters. I related to a lot of what was going through Gordie's mind because at 12 years old I felt the same way in many ways. King simply has that gift of bringing his people off the pages. Even though it was fiction I felt that a lot of this actually happened to him. He wrote this one from the heart.
