The Body

#1 New York Times bestselling author Stephen King's timeless novella The Body, originally published in his 1982 collection Different Seasons and adapted into the 1986 film classic Stand by Me, now available as a stand-alone edition.
Four rambunctious young boys venture into the Maine woods in search of a boy from a nearby town who has disappeared. Gordie Lachance and his three friends set out on a quest to find the missing boy's body along the railroad tracks. The Body is set outside King's iconic fictional town of Castle Rock, which is the setting of many of King's most popular books including It and The Stand, and Castle Rock, a 10-episode Hulu original series, based on King's short stories. King's The Body is an iconic coming of age story that explores the loneliness and isolation of young adulthood.

Second reading but it felt like the first time
If youâve seen Stand By Me then you know the basic plot of the movie! Four friends travel to find the body of a boy that has gone missing and is confirmed dead by the brother of one of the four main characters. Solid story but I do tend to prefer this kind of King story as opposed to his more blatantly horrific ones! I did have an issue of noticing a plot hole regarding the gun in the story (i.e., early on Chambers tells Teddy and Vern about the gun but later Gordon says that Teddy and Vern donât know about it). A small thing and it didnât take me out of the story! In true King fashion, nods to some of his other work (e.g., Cujo, Shawshank, etc).
Warning: The characters do use an awful lot of offensive language including racial and cultural slurs. The movie may be a better option for a lot of people who are interested in this story!
EDIT: I was also not a fan of the two stories within this story. As with Misery, the inside stories are simply not as good as the one Iâve already been reading. Next time I read this, I know I can skip over them.

Great read.
Interesting memoir-ish type of novel. I wasn't a fan of the language and a lot of the references and slang were hard to understand. The overall journey about young men in their adolescence was interesting, but it wasn't something I would recommend.
Solid 3.5
