I liked reading about her journey to where she started the series.

This book took me forever to read. The beginning was really slow for me, the stories just weren’t catching my attention. However the last few stories were incredible, especially The Assassin and the Empire. Absolutely heartbreaking.

As far as reading order, I read this third, after Crown of Midnight. If I would’ve read it before TOG, I would not have finished. I do not suggest reading this first! I’m glad I was already captivated by the series before reading this one.

I'm reading the series a little differently than intended and started with this prequel/novella collection. I'm already super invested in the main character. The last novella was gut-wrenchingly devastating. Probably hits a little differently reading it this way rather than already knowing what happens after this. I also liked that the each story interconnected and that they aren't necessarily stand-alone.

Let's talk more SJM! This is the prequel to the Throne of Glass series and there's a lot of controversy as to when this one should be read in comparison to the other books. Unfortunately I didn't get into Bookstagram fast enough because I ended up reading this one last. I think there were some nice parts to having not known some details while reading the series, but I do really wish I read this one sooner because it gives so much context as to who Celaena is.

Read it out of order so I already knew what happened.
